In 1804 doctors of Savannah, Georgia petitioned the Georgia Legislature to grant them a charter for a medical society. The charter was granted December 12, 1804 for the Georgia Medical Society. This date makes the Georgia Medical Society the second oldest active city medical society in the United States.
